Egg Recall Expanded

I'm sure most people are aware of the massive egg recall that has spread throughout the US due to Salmonella, well it hasn't ended, in fact it has expanded to include a second Iowa egg farm.
The outbreak has already sickened more than 1,000 people and the toll of illnesses is expected to increase.
Federal officials say it's one of the largest egg recalls in recent history. Americans consume about 220 million eggs a day, based on industry estimates. Iowa is the leading egg producing state.

The latest recall were eggs distributed under the brand names Hillandale Farms, Sunny Farms, Sunny Meadow, Wholesome Farms and West Creek. The new recall applies to eggs sold between April and August.

Hillandale said the eggs were distributed to grocery distribution centers, retail groceries and food service companies which service or are located in fourteen states, including Arkansas, California, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin.

If you happen to have recently purchased some of these eggs it is recommended that you throw them away or return them to the store you purchased them from.

In the last few years we've had a rash of recalls due to salmonella - including the tomato recall and spinach (these are the 2 main ones I can remember.)

What do you think about this latest recall? What do you think can be done to safeguard the food we buy and should stricter regulations be placed on the farms that produce the products we consume daily? Leave a comment and voice your opinion.
